Reputable E-tailers

Postby Ren » Fri Dec 11, 2009 9:49 pm

Hello All.

I think that we should have a wee thread on trustworthy online shops, since we rely on computers and would buy or upgrade from time to time. It might be good to know who to trust, and equally who not to trust for providing a good service.

Having recently just bought a load of stuff online, I'll start off :D

THE GOOD

ILGS.co.uk - Nice wee hidden gem of a site. I got both my cases from them. Cheapest price, delivery time was excellent, but one of the cases was damaged and they were happy to arrange collection and replacement. It took a cpl of days to organise, but overall a great service. Contactable by phone if needed.

Scan.co.uk - Ordered online. I spotted other parts that I wanted and called Customer Service to have them added to my delivery and it wasn't a problem. Items arrived in good time and good nick.

Overclockers.co.uk - I ordered over the phone just to check that stock was available. Had cheapest prices for the parts that I wanted. I had payment issues and the guy on the phone was very patient. You're kept informed of your order status via email. Quick delivery.

THE BAD

Misco.co.uk - Rubbish. Promised graphics cards would be in stock on Monday, and only received an email on Thursday to say there was a delay and wouldn't be available until mid-January.

I've had past good experiences from dabs.com

Chillblast.com is where I got my PC from, and I can heartily recommend them... For example, my PSU was making funny noises at the beginning of the year, so I emailed them to see what they thought of it, but made a point of the fact that I was concerned, as I didn't want it to fail on me. They understandably said that it sounded dodgy, so agreed to change it under warranty. Now this is where the dread of a couple of weeks with no PC usually comes in to play, as it normally has to be sent off. While they did offer that option, they also said that if I thought I could do it, they'd just send out a new PSU for me to fit myself, and then send the old one back to them. Awesome service. Always friendly and helpful.

Amazon is also a reliable source of variousness.

Update

Actually put Overclockers.co.uk in the "bunch of wankers u don't want to touch with a barge-pole" category. I got what turned out to be a faulty m/brd and gfx card from them. GFX card was replaced without issue, but they're being fkg retarded about the m/brd. They say that there are bent and damaged pins in the cpu bay and want extra money to send to Asus for "repair" instead of replacement. I know I didn't cause the damage, and it's their word vs mine... but it's been a long time since the ethos of "the customer is always right".

Whoremongering cocksuckers!

So does that mean that your uber machine is on standby again? Or was the naff mobo for the second machine you're making?

M/brd was for 2nd PC. I have 1 uber machine up n purrin nicely. Finally got to finish CoD4, lol... and finished MW2 last night. Working my way through Far Cry 2 before tackling Crysis :)

Yeh Thraxy... I spent big to make sure I have a machine capable of running games for the next few years, unless the bastards go all Virtual Reality on me! lol

Fair enough my quad core machine is still kicking out power backed with 4GB.

Might upgrade the mobo at somepoint for fun really.

Tempted to buy OEM Vista 7 Ultimate
